How to Learn in the Health Professions
This is the textbook companion to Osmosis’s video series, “How to Succeed in the Health Professions.” How to Learn in the Health Professions helps Health Sciences faculty and students become better learners and teachers by sharing methods that have been shown to improve learning. Throughout the book we emphasize active learning strategies that maximize knowledge acquisition and retention, and the evidence base that supports them. We envision that this book can be used by individual learners at all stages, by themselves or in groups, or integrated into a curriculum on “how to learn.”

Our co-founders, Shiv and Ryan, met as anatomy learning partners at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where they quickly became best friends. During their time at Johns Hopkins they were faced with a key question: what’s the most effective way to learn both medicine and health sciences, and become the best clinician possible? This inspired them to start working on what would eventually become Osmosis. Shiv and Ryan were soon joined by the former Khan Academy Medicine team, led by Osmosis’ Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rishi Desai. Together, they recruited the rest of the Osmosis Team and created the most advanced and comprehensive learning platform for medical and health professions students.
